WASHINGTON — It’s far from final, but a spokesman for Kiewit-Turner said Monday that the construction company was “encouraged” by overtures made recently by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to settle a fight over efforts to build a new VA hospital in Aurora.

Last week, a federal board ruled that the VA had breached its contract with KT — which led to KT threatening to . Since then, Colorado lawmakers have been in order to finish the facility, estimated to cost as much as $1 billion.

Here’s the KT statement, from Monday afternoon:

“We received correspondence from the VA in an important first step in getting all workers back on the job and completing this project for Colorado-area Veterans.

“We have been encouraged by our conversations with Deputy Secretary (Sloan) Gibson since the (federal board) decision and appreciate his personal attention and leadership on this matter.

“We will be meeting with (VA) Deputy Secretary Gibson this week to discuss the critical details necessary to moving this project forward as soon as possible.”
