Denver Human Services and other agencies had proposed to house some of the unprecedented wave of unaccompanied children, mainly from Central America, that swamped services this summer after they illegally crossed the border seeking asylum from violence in their countries.

The wave of youths across the border has slowed since summer.

The federal government also has built a that can hold as many as 2,400 people.
