A firetruck drives through Colorado Springs in 2012. The Evergreen Fire Protection District has approved a $500 fee for responding to car accidents and other emergencies for nonresidents. (Karl Gehring, Denver Post file)
Re: “Will Evergreen set off a chain reaction of accident response fees?,” Dec. 16 editorial.
Being in the wrong place at the wrong time is often the reason for an accident happening. But being in Evergreen may become the wrong place to be at anytime lest the unforeseen were to happen. Perhaps Evergreen is seeking isolation from its neighbors, thereby discouraging visitors, shoppers, and income to the community. Does this mean Evergreen is seeking to reduce its need and number of first responders?

Word of mouth and travel warnings will do untold harm to this state. At a minimum, any city collecting accident response fees should post signs at all city limit boundaries. I hope it never happens.
