Interview with Chris Oliver, general manager
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I have been around the action sports industry and specifically bicycle motorcross, known as BMX, my whole life. I own and operate , which covers mountain biking and BMX riding. Almost every rider dreams of owning their own indoor park. I met Tanner Bouchard through PSBMX and together, with a cast of many, we brought our dream to life with EvolveASP.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: Colorado offers many outdoor riding opportunities for free. Early in our planning process we realized we need to offer things that free parks can’t. We narrowed this down to two key elements. The first is controling the positive attitude and vibe of what goes on inside our park. You can’t make that happen at a public place. The second item is a foam pit and resi jump line, or soft safety ramp. These two elements allow riders to safely learn new tricks and evolve their riding. Evolve will have the only public foam pit and resi line on the Front Range.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: This is simple. It is an amazing feeling to help a young (or older) rider learn something new. Helping a rider learn a new trick that pushes their limits is amazing. You can almost see the world of possibilities open for them as they are getting high fives with a huge smile on their face. This is why we built EvolveASP: To help Colorado riders of all types keep getting that feeling.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: As I stated before, Colorado has a lot of free riding options for skaters, mountain bikers, BMX and scooter riders. It has proven challenging in the past for other parks to be successful in this area. We feel that our positive environment and riding options will help us stand out and will drive riders through our door.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: Our goal is not just to make Evolve a fun place for riders but we also want to make it a cool place for non-riders. To this goal we are planning First Friday art events, concerts and other social events at the park.
