Interview with Mindy Anderson, owner
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I started doing shows and home parties in January 2007. I realized it was too heavy carrying iron around to each event. I found a space for a permanent home but it was too big for just my stuff. Then I asked the other girls I had met at those shows if they wanted to be a part of it. Everyone was excited about it. Some of my girls have been with me since Day 1.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: There wasn’t anything like it when we started. The other business owners in Wrought’n Apples sell their items and work in the store, as well. It’s kind of like a family. We help each other out. We love what we do. We pride ourselves on unique and one-of-a-kind items.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: The people I work with and the customers I meet every day. Some have become great friends. Also, the happiness we see on their faces when they find that item they have been looking for. It’s a great atmosphere.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: Not being able to find some of the items that are requested. We try our best. I do have some very talented girls that can make just about anything. So if we need to, we can get creative. Also, taking a day off doesn’t happen. There is always something to do for the stores.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: We now have two locations. I’m running them both on my own with the help of my girls in the store. I couldn’t do it without them. I only have my associates degree. I used to work in retail a lot, be a teller at banks, process mortgage loans, teach singing and helped organize continuing education programs for a college. I never really knew how to run a business. I learn something new every day. I wouldn’t change a thing.
