BOULDER — In an effort to fortify Colorado’s defensive depth, Buffaloes coach Mike MacIntyre announced Thursday the signing of three junior-college transfers.
Taking advantage of the mid-year signing period for transfers, defensive tackle Jordan Carrell, defensive end Blake Robbins and defensive back Afolabi Laguda joined the program.
Carrell (6-foot-3, 275 pounds) played two seasons at American River College in Sacramento, Calif. This past season as a sophomore, Carrell recorded 80 tackles, including 20 for losses and eight sacks.
Robbins (6-4, 260) missed a month of playing time this fall at Georgia Military College with a hand fracture but still notched 15 tackles for loss, with five sacks.
Laguda (6-2, 200) played one season at Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kan., where he registered 46 tackles in 2014.
“We’re excited today that we helped ourselves on defense,” MacIntyre said in a CU news release. “We’ve bulked up our D-line with more size and pass-rushing ability. … Afolabi is a rangy defensive back who can play all positions in the secondary.”
The trio will enroll at Colorado in January and can participate in spring practices. Carrell and Robbins will be juniors in eligibility and can play two seasons at CU. Laguda will be a sophomore in 2015, with three seasons of eligibility remaining. All three have a redshirt year available.
