Friday marks the busiest travel day at Denver International Airport before Christmas, officials say.

Some passengers took to social media to note the long lines and waits at security checkpoints. The airport said on Friday they were experiencing a “record-breaking” number of passengers through screening.

“We’re expecting about 166,000 passengers,” said Laura Cole, an airport spokeswoman. “It is one of the busiest days on record for our checkpoints.”

The airport typically sees about 140,000 travelers on a normal day.

Officials encouraged travelers to get to the airport at least two hours before their flight.
