Getting your player ready...

Denver culinary magician Ian Kleinman (right) a.k.a. The Inventing Room, will compete on CNBC’s “Restaurant Startup” when the second season begins Jan. 13.

Kleinman, the molecular gastronomist who creates floating food, “techno-emo food” and other kitchen chemistry (liquid nitrogen martinis!), is among the 20 entrepreneurs vying for an investment. Mike Coberly appears as sous chef.

Kleinman said taping occurred in November: “It was so much fun… Every half-hour or 45 minutes we were given something else to do. No time to gather thoughts… it’s quite a lot of pressure. It was an absolute whirlwind.”

Pop-up restaurants, food trucks and other ideas are put to the test, per CNBC: “The chosen team is given the keys to a working restaurant on trendy Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. They get 36 hours and $7,500 to put their dream to the test and create a business plan; come up with a branding campaign; and, finally, launch their pop-up restaurant.

“Under the watchful eye of Joe Bastianich and Tim Love’s culinary consultant Antonia Lofaso, the aspiring food moguls open their doors, serve their food and test their concept on the public.”
