Denver Public Works has canceled plans to close Interstate 25 between Colorado Boulevard and Evans Avenue Monday night for what would have been a major installation on the Colorado Center Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge.
The contractor on the project has asked for more time to assemble the 40-foot high arch for the bridge and review installation plans for the structure. Also, a forecast of possible precipitation and wind late Monday contributed to the decision to delay the job.
Denver will work with the Colorado Department of Transportation on establishing a new date to get the installation done.
Last Thursday, crews put in place the 309-foot bridge truss over I-25. The arch, to be installed next, is also 309 feet in length and weighs 43 tons. The project cost is estimated at $8 million.
