BRIGHTON — A man who allegedly waived his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday in Adams County Court.

Adams County Judge Dianna Roybal did lower the bond for Joel Jurado Jr. from $50,000 to $35,000 and set his next court appearance for Feb. 9.

Jurado, 26, is charged with attempted first-degree assault on a police officer and one count of aggravated driving with a revoked license as a habitual offender.

Jurado and his younger brother, Carlos Jurado, 20, .

Police say Joel Jurado struck a Denver police vehicle as two officers approached his pickup on foot. Police were after Jurado because they suspected he was driving under the influence. His younger brother, who was inside the vehicle, has not been charged.

The were subsequently shot by Denver police.

Prosecutors Tuesday argued against lowering the bail, saying that when Jurado saw the officers he put his truck in reverse and the officers had to dive out of the way.

Jurado was hooked up to an oxygen tube Tuesday, and his defense attorney said one of his lungs collapsed because of the shooting.
