According to U.S. Census state population estimates for 2014 released Dec. 23, Colorado is the fourth fastest-growing state in the country (see interactive chart below). From July 1, 2013 to July 1, 2014, the state gained 83,780 residents, an increase of 1.59 percent from 2013. In terms of total population Colorado ranks 22nd, with a population of 5,355,866.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there is:
• A birth every 8 seconds
• A death every 11 seconds
• An international migrant (net) every 33 seconds
• A net gain of one person every 16 seconds
The population of the United States increased by 2.4 million to 318.9 million (0.75 percent).
Six states lost population (use the “Population change 2013-14 total” data filter) and 16 states had more people leave than move in (use the “Migration total” data filter).
