Lacrosse and hockey enthusiasts in Colorado are getting a holiday gift with the arrival of specialty retailer MonkeySports.
The new store, in Greenwood Village at 6578 S. Yosemite Circle, represents the seventh market for MonkeySports, which started in 1999 as a single store specializing in hockey equipment.
The chain operates stores in Irvine and Santa Ana, Calif.; Norwood, Mass.; Derry, N.H.; Woodbridge, N.J.; and Södertälje, Sweden.
MonkeySports also carries baseball and softball equipment.
Tom Arnold, chief financial officer and a partner in MonkeySports, said Colorado has been underserved in hockey and lacrosse retailing.
“Strong online sales and high demand highlighted the need for a brick-and-mortar location in the (metro Denver) market,” he said.

Frank Griffin, managing director of commercial real estate brokerage Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, represented MonkeySports in the transaction. Griffin described the location as “ideal,” with close proximity to Interstate 25 and strong retail demographics.
MonkeySports announced in April that it would move its headquarters from Corona, Calif. to Allen, Texas.
