Across most of the country, Jan. 1 is a day of lingering headaches and college football on TV — but you’re in Colorado, so why not get out and explore?
Colorado Parks and Wildlife wants New Year’s Day revelers to get their boots on the ground — and their rear ends off the couch — by joining state park rangers on a series of First Day Hikes planned at 23 of Colorado’s 42 state parks.
“It’s bound to be a beautiful day, whether it’s sunny or snowing,” state Parks and Wildlife spokesman Matt Robbins said.
Visitors are free to ask rangers about bird songs, animal tracks and the annual rhythms of native wildlife and ecology, but they also can just tag along for the fresh air. Park fees — generally $7 per vehicle — will apply.
