After a classic Christmas Eve dinner of ham, pan dressing (OK, the latter a reprise of Thanksgiving), a potato-and-Gruyere casserole and , by noon on Christmas Day my wife and I were jonesing for — anything but leftovers from a classic Christmas Eve dinner.
Our thoughts turned to Chinese food, which guarantees a polar opposite from traditional holiday flavors, at least in the U.S. This despite the fact that for the first year in ages, we hadn’t watched
Our first idea: dim sum at Star Kitchen on Denver’s west side. But the line there was out the door and the temperature was heading south. Ditto for Empress. Tossing in that towel, we headed to Cherry Creek — lots of imagination on our part, right? — and finally stumbled upon Haso Asian Bistro & Sushi. It’s a brand-new spot at 250 Steele St., but is rooted in the former East Asia Garden on Broadway.
It was a welcome find. We opened with a first-rate eel-and-avocado sushi roll that we paired with a spicy seaweed salad. Then on to the Chinese side of the menu, with yushan beef and General Tso’s chicken. Haso is a pretty room with a friendly staff, and it’s nice to have a sushi bar in Cherry Creek to belly up to.
