Re: “In Holmes trial, giving lawyers a worse name,” Dec. 14 Rich Tosches column; “Investigator in Holmes trial: Here’s my emergency,” Dec. 21 My Turn column; and “James Holmes attorney: Writer was heartless,” Dec. 21 My Turn column.

I applaud Rich Tosches for calling James Holmes’ lawyers out for nothing short of stalling. I moved to Denver more than two decades ago when Nathan Dunlap committed four murders about 2 miles from my house. I’ve gone from the beginning of my career with one infant to two kids out of college and my career winding down while Dunlap’s sentence has yet to be carried out. So while I am sorry for defense attorney Tamara Brady’s loss of her father, I feel I am watching the remake of Nathan Dunlap.

Holmes committed his crimes more than 2½ years ago. Itap ridiculous. I doubt Tosches was intentionally being heartless regarding the death of a parent, but rather, was frustrated with the absurdity of the legal system.

Regarding the responses to Rich Tosches’ column on the medical emergencies of the defense team in the James Holmes case, one thing that most might agree with is that the case has clearly become a media-driven issue. This was best illustrated by the responses from the two members of the defense team who had the emergencies.

As described, certainly no one would argue that these were anything but emergencies for each family, yet it must be kept in mind each of the members of the defense team were not named in public. While it is understandable that they might take offense to parts of Tosches’ essay, they were still anonymous and, by their own choice, revealed the situation in their families and their own names.
