A mother and six children younger than 17 escaped a basement fire in Colorado Springs without injury early Monday.
The Colorado Springs Fire Department was called to 2206 N. Circle Drive around 1:30 a.m. and had a blaze caused by electrical issues under control within 14 minutes, spokesman Capt. Steve Oswald said.
The fire started in a basement bedroom where two people were sleeping, Oswald said. The home did not have working smoke alarms, and he said the people sleeping in the bedroom are “very, very lucky to be alive.”
