BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. (AP) — A Breckenridge snowplow operator found a badly injured woman lying face-down in a street after she was struck by a hit-and-run driver while walking, authorities said.
Laura Hamilton suffered a concussion, whiplash, broken bones in her back and leg and a deep gash on her left thigh when she was hit Friday night, the Summit Daily reported Tuesday (http://tinyurl.com/pz9tfsa).
Hamilton, 23, was recovering at a Frisco hospital. She said doctors told her it will take four to six weeks to heal.
No arrests have been made. Police were looking for a dark gray or slate-color vehicle, based on video from buses and nearby businesses.
Hamilton said she was walking home and had texted a friend to pick her up but remembers little after that. The snowplow operator spotted her and was turning around to help her just as the friend arrived.
Hamilton works for Breckenridge ski area owner Vail Resorts. She moved from South Carolina to Breckenridge to snowboard and hopes to be on the slopes again in February.
“I won’t let this put me back,” she said.
Friends are raising money for Hamilton’s expenses and for airfare so her mother can travel from South Carolina to visit her.
