1 Scam leads to broken heart, loss of $1,200. A lovestruck woman in the 8300 block of West 68th Avenue, Arvada, wired $1,200 on Dec. 10 to the acquaintance of a boyfriend she met online and briefly dated this fall. The man had moved to Arizona after hitting hard times and told the woman he needed the money to rent a house so they could live together. She suspected theft after multiple calls to his phone went unanswered, he “unfriended” her on Facebook and she received a text message that said “you got played.”
2 Traffic stop unearths drug stashes. Police found an ounce of meth in the center console of a vehicle stopped for erratic driving in the 6300 block of Sheridan Boulevard, Arvada, on Dec. 11. The driver had no insurance and a routine vehicle inventory done prior to impound uncovered the illicit stash. During the booking process, police found 10 hydrocodone pills in the suspect’s bra.
3 Insult to injury for scorned girlfriend. Tensions flared when a trash-talking boyfriend insulted his girlfriend at a party Dec. 13. An ensuing argument back home in the 6200 block of W. 60th Avenue, Arvada, ended when she threw his phone off a balcony during a call to police. The next call was successful and she was arrested on multiple charges.
4 Brass knuckle carrying convict arrested. A man arrested on outstanding warrants Dec. 12 in the 6600 block of Lamar Street, Arvada, was also charged with illegal weapon possession when police found a pair of brass knuckles on him. He admitted ownership, saying “It’s a dangerous neighborhood.”
