Colorado Springs Airport is back to normal operations after a bomb squad cleared a “suspicious” package that was smoking as it arrived on an American Airlines flight from Dallas-Fort Worth.

The package was discovered at 11:59 a.m. Friday after Flight 5343 landed.

But authorities later learned that the package contained a hair dryer and a flat iron.

“The bag was seen smoking,” said Heather Lenard, airport spokeswoman.

The Colorado Springs Police Department’s bomb squad and its explosives K-9 unit investigated and determined the package did not contain anything harmful, Lenard said.

The Peterson Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting team and the FBI participated in the investigation.

Officials had cleared all personnel from a large section of the airport.
