Current City Auditor Dennis Gallagher is not seeking re-election.

Re: “Denver City Council hopefuls round up dollars ahead of key deadline,” Jan. 1 news story.

Thank you for your review in Thursday’s edition regarding the numerous Denver City Council races coming up in May. And yes, we are all a little worn out after the November elections. But I’m disappointed that there was no mention of the race for city auditor.

Denver’s annual revenues are approximately $3 billion; city assets exceed $10 billion. There needs to be discussion as to how the auditor’s office can be better managed to provide the taxpayers of Denver the oversight they deserve. There are currently two announced candidates: Timothy M. O’Brien and Chris Nevitt. We as taxpayers will benefit most if we elect a candidate who is qualified, experienced and independent. I encourage you to cover this race and keep the taxpayers informed about their important vote.

Mary Frances Kelley, Denver
