The former mayor of Silverthorne died Friday after a house fire, the Summit Daily reported.

Warren Alloway, 81, had been a resident of the town for nearly 60 years and was mayor from 1968 to 1976.

Firefighters from three different Summit County departments — about 20 firefighters in all — took more than an hour to extinguish the house fire Friday.

According to Lake Dillon Fire and Rescue officials, an unconscious man had to be rescued from the home and transported to St. Anthony’s Summit Medical Center in Frisco. The Summit Daily said the man was Alloway and he died shortly after he arrived at the hospital.

The blaze, at 914 Blue River Parkway, was reported at 12:57 p.m., with firefighters from Lake Dillon Fire-Rescue making the initial attempt at dousing the flames. The department was joined by firefighters from Copper Mountain Fire and Red, White & Blue Fire based in Breckenridge as well as two officers from the High Country Training Center.

Silverthorne Police and deputies from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office also were present to secure the scene, and a worker from Xcel Energy cut the power and gas to the home.

The cause of the fire was being investigated.
