Getting your player ready...

CHICAGO — Before joining Avalanche general manager and fellow Hockey Hall of Famer Joe Sakic on the ice at the United Center on Tuesday, Patrick Roy put his team through a brief workout to prepare for the evening game against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Twenty of the 21 players on the one-game trip participated. Left wing Cody McLeod is questionable with a leg injury, Roy said, and might not play in Colorado’s first game this season in Chicago. McLeod and defenseman Zach Redmond will skate in the warmup and if McLeod is not fit to play Redmond will serve as the seventh defenseman, with the Avs going with just 11 forwards.

Semyon Varlamov will make his fifth consecutive start and the top three lines will be the same as the last two games. Matt Duchene will center wingers Gabe Landeskog and Borna Rendulic, Ryan O’Reilly will skate between Alex Tanguay and Jarome Iginla and John Mitchell’s will feature Max Talbot and Nathan MacKinnon.

The Avs are 0-2 against the Blackhawks, who won by 3-2 and 5-2 scores in Denver on Nov. 26 and Dec. 27.
