Getting your player ready...

A clue! (Dave Burdick, The Denver Post)

When I talk to friends on the east coast about Colorado weather, I sometimes brag that we rarely have dirty snow. It doesn’t usually last long enough. This week we’re not looking so good, and I’m finding treacherous little glaciers, reservoirs hidden under crisp, thin ice, and plain old garbage frozen to the sidewalks, which contributed to yesterday’s all-time worst weather review.

But last night I sat in bed reading and listening to the sound of water falling into gutters and plunking onto the external block of the air conditioner and slapping the concrete of our courtyard. Rapid nighttime snowmelt is an odd phenomenon, and I think I got the most out of it, finishing a novel and making small progress toward a New Year’s resolution.

Speaking of which:

Last year my only New Year’s Resolution was to finally finish Infinite Jest. In 2015 this is once again my New Year’s Resolution.

OK, on to the numbers…

High: 55°

Low: -4°

Review: ★★★☆.

These quick thaws feel like the first day after you’ve gotten over a cold. Everything is clearer and easier, at least until you’re back in the rhythm of things and the mundane little obstacles reassert their dominance.

Open thread below. What novel have you been meaning to read forever?
