The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the whole Front Range beginning Thursday evening.

The advisory, which is in effect in the Denver area from 7 p.m.Thursday to 8 a.m. Friday, calls for freezing drizzle mixed with light snow.

The NWS expects a glaze of ice on roads, covered by up to an inch of snow, making driving extremely hazardous.

Visibility could drop to less than a mile because of the drizzle and fog.

Earlier, the NWS had warned residents to expect “roller coaster weather” on Thursday.

The temperature is expected to drop to as low as 14 degrees tonight after a high in the mid-50s.

An 80 percent chance of precipitation is forecast for Thursday night when about one-tenth of an inch of ice could fall and up to one inch of snow.

The weather service says temperatures will become “much colder” and that hazardous road conditions could exist for the morning commute on Friday.

The wintry mix of snow and ice is forecasted to continue into Friday.
