Re: “Standing up for the cops,” Jan. 2 Ruben Navarrette column.
I was pleased to see Ruben Navarrette’s column. As the widow of a police officer, it has been hard listening to all the controversy that has been going on for the past few months. All police departments are being swept with a broad brush as using excessive force. Unfortunately, a few are polluting the thousands of good officers who protect us. Not only are they putting their fellow officers in danger, they still have to be protected by those very officers.
I remember when my husband was killed, one of the officers told me that we were all family and that is the way most departments feel.
A few bad apples do not speak for a whole department. No matter what their color or ethnicity, they are all brothers. Don’t let a few officers speak for a whole department. There are far more good than bad and we depend on their protection and honor.
