Air Academy junior Katie Rainsberger was named the Thursday.
Rainsberger won the Class 4A individual state championship with a time of 18:50.3. It was the fastest time by a girl regardless of classification in 2014.
“Katie Rainsberger is perhaps the hardest-working yet most balanced student-athlete we have ever seen,” Air Academy assistant coach Lu Sultze said in a release. “She comes to practice with a positive energy that elevates the entire team.”
The junior also has a 3.96 grade-point average, and won the Nike Cross Nationals Southwest Regional championships with a time of 17:11.
Rainsberger is the second Air Academy student to win the award. Allie McLaughlin was runner of the year in 2009.
