Mountain Toad Brewing got the OK Wednesday from Golden’s planning commission to move forward with .
Some items that caught the commissioners’ attention included horse hitching posts, the use of hops for shade over a tasting room patio and trail connections .
Architect for the site Robert Davis said the horse hitching posts, listed as equestrian amenities, were to appeal to the numerous horse properties in the area.
Commission vice chair Suzanne Stutzman praised the design’s trail connections. The site, in Coors Tech Center at 16401 Table Mountain Parkway, backs up to Tony Grampsas Park, which has bike paths that connect to the Golden Bike Park and paths in North Table Mountain Park. The proposed brewery site will connect with that path, and Table Mountain Parkway feeds into McIntyre Street, .
“I think the trail connections are outstanding,” Stutzman said. “It really does hook up to a meaningful trail system in a meaningful way.”
The new brewing facility will occupy 17,000 square feet of the building. The remainder will be home to research and development for Custom Control Systems, an aerospace sensory company that .
The site’s final plans will be reviewed and approved by Golden city staff and the developer hopes to begin construction this spring.
