Cowboy Downhill

Steamboat Springs’ 41st annual Cowboy Downhill is Jan. 19. More than 100 professional rodeo cowboys (in rodeo gear) will race downhill in a skiing stampede. Other Western-themed events include a 4H animal petting zoo, lasso clinic and more. The event kicks off the evening of the 18th, with a hot-air balloon glow at 5 p.m.

Hockey tournament

Keystone Mountain’s 9280 Taphouse Pond Hockey Tournament is Jan. 23-25, at the ice rink inside Lakeside Village. No matter your age, this outdoor hockey event features several different divisions to compete in, plus live music each evening. Teams of no fewer than four and no more than six have until midnight on Jan. 16 to register.

Ice-fishing competition

Grand Lake’s 27th annual Three Lakes Ice Fishing contest is Jan. 23-25. This three-day competition takes place at Lake Granby, Shadow Mountain Reservoir and Grand Lake and is open to fishermen and women of all skill levels. Steampunk Snowdown

Durango’s annual midwinter party, Snowdown, takes place Jan. 28-Feb. 1. In its 37th year, this five-day celebration includes a beard competition, a costume ball, a nighttime street parade, quirky races, contests and more. This year’s theme is Steampunk.
