Police in the small, southern Colorado town of Walsenburg, citing budget shortfalls, are trying to crowdfund the purchase of a new law enforcement canine.
“Officer Atos retired in November of 2014 after many years of great service,” police said, referencing their old canine. “Due to budgeting, the purchase of a new K-9 was not feasible for this year. The K-9 program is an asset to the community and we are seeking your help in the purchase and training of a new officer.”
The shows police are seeking $10,000 for the new police dog.
As of Thursday morning, no money had been raised.
Walsenburg is a town of about 4,100 located roughly 50 miles south of Pueblo.
