Officials with the state’s health insurance exchange say they need $322,000 to fix that have kept thousands of people from enrolling for coverage.
Staff plan to make a request for the funding to Connect for Health Colorado’s board of directors on Monday.
Almost 117,000 Coloradans have enrolled for private insurance plans in 2015, but glitches affected an estimated 4,800 people in the section of the application determining eligibility for tax credits or Medicaid, officials said. Of those, some 2,300 were still unable to complete enrollment, an exchange spokesman said Friday.
The planned funding request was first reported by on Friday. The money is intended to help the exchange as it approaches the Feb. 15 deadline for 2015 enrollments. Additional funding may be required after that.
The exchange this week told insurance carriers, brokers and health coverage guides it had identified more than two dozen technical issues. At least half were resolved by mid-December, interim chief executive Gary Drews said in a letter Tuesday.
“We realize technical issues have been difficult and frustrating for many,” Drews said. “While we don’t anticipate a perfect system when launching new technology and programs, we certainly had higher expectations than we’ve delivered.”
