It won’t be the kind of seamless transition NBC has pulled off in the past (ie., Leno to Fallon) when Stephen Colbert debuts on CBS Sept. 8.
“The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” will debut three months after David Letterman signs off “The Late Show,” leaving CBS with time to kill. The network announced plans to fill that time with reruns of its primetime shows.
CBS is also in talks with Letterman for special programming leading up to his farewell.
The network’s announcement of Colbert’s start date included this typically illuminating quote from Colbert: “I have nine months to make a show, just like a baby. So first, I should find out how you make a baby.”
