SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — One of two climbers attempting a grueling ascent up a half-mile of sheer granite in California’s Yosemite National Park has caught up with his partner.
A spokeswoman for Patagonia says Kevin Jorgeson caught up to Tommy Caldwell Monday night and that the two will be soon ready to make a push for the top.
Spokeswoman Jess Clayton says the 30-year-old Jorgeson caught up to his climbing partner after his third attempt.
Clayton says Jorgeson and 36-year-old Caldwell will push to the 3,000-foot summit, possibly by midweek.
The pair has been scaling El Capitan’s Dawn Wall since December 27 without climbing aids other than safety ropes.
