The Denver Sheriff Department on Friday said its drug-detecting dog, Jack, was put down after being diagnosed this week with cancer.

“We are deeply saddened,” the department said in a release.

Jack’s death comes on the heels of the deaths of two other law enforcement dogs in the metro area this week.

Jack, a 6-year-old German shepherd, worked in the jails for five years. After he collapsed recently, tumors were found on Jack’s heart and liver.

“Jack loves his job and will be deeply missed at the department, where he has played a vital role,” the office said.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office this week said it is who spent nearly a decade on the force sniffing out bombs. The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday reported that Titan, who served for seven years with law enforcement, .
