The artist Christo wants to drape several miles of the Arkansas River canyon in Colorado with translucent fabric. (Karl Gehring, Denver Post file)

Re: “Will Christo’s river project set a precedent?,” Jan. 11 Perspective article.

I am surprised and dismayed at the amount of negativity (especially from the pages of The Post) toward Christo’s proposed “Over the River” installation.

Yes, his art is large and ego-driven. It is also temporary. The area proposed for drilling the supports for the fabric is already a railroad bed. Previous art installations by Christo have been carefully cleaned up with little or no trace left behind.

Art matters. Even art like Christo’s.
