A Minnesota woman is blaming SkyWest Airlines for a broken kneecap and other injuries she suffered after a flight she took from Aspen to Denver.

Victoria Sins filed the negligence lawsuit Monday in U.S. District Court in Denver, claiming that on Jan. 13, 2013, she was en route to Minneapolis following a modeling job in Aspen. Sins took a SkyWest flight to Denver International Airport first, but the airplane sat on the tarmac for about 30 minutes after it landed, the suit says.

“When Sins finally deplaned, she had about 15 minutes to make her connection,” the suit says, adding that, “It was important to make her connecting flight or book another flight to Minneapolis that day, since she was scheduled to take a Series Six Real Estate Class the following day.”

After disembarking the plane, she headed back to retrieve a carry-on bag that she had gate-checked, the lawsuit says. That’s when she fell and hurt herself, according to the allegations.

“As Sins walked back toward the plane, she stepped with her right foot on the edge of a rubberized mat that had been placed at the jetway end of the metal bridge,” the suit alleges. “The mat slid under Sins’ foot, causing her to fall forward and to the right. The mat crumpled in front of her, and despite her attempt to stabilize herself on the jetway wall, her left foot caught on the resulting fold in the mat and she tripped forward. Sins felt a pop in her knee and immediate pain.”
