1 Take the money and run. On Jan. 7, a Lakewood police officer responded to Winchell’s Donut House, 6801 W. Colfax Ave., Lakewood, regarding a theft. The owner said a woman had just stolen the money out of the tip jar and ran out of the store. The officer stopped her a few blocks away after she tried to elude the owner on an RTD bus. It was unclear how much money she took, but she was issued a summons for petty theft.
2 No fare, three warrants. A man was arrested Jan. 7 on the West Line of the RTD Light Rail near the Wadsworth station in Lakewood. An officer was checking fares, and a man who had no valid fare also could not provide an ID and gave a fake name. After much prodding, the man gave the officer his real name and the officer discovered he had three felony warrants.
3 Mother assaults daughter. On Jan. 4, officers responded to a residence in the 2600 block of Ingalls Street in Edgewater regarding a disturbance or assault in progress. The disturbance occurred between an adult daughter and her mother. The mother was arrested and issued a summons for assault. The victim and her mother sustained only minor injuries. The mother was transported to a local detox facility due to her level of intoxication.
4 Drinking and weaving. An Edgewater police officer arrested a 33-year-old man for DUI and weaving in the area of 26th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard on Jan. 4. The drunken motorist reportedly almost collided with a parked vehicle during his joyride.
