It was a true “throwback Thursday” when the young professionals of Behind the Red broke out their leg warmers, head bands, off-the-shoulder T-shirts and leather jackets for a 1980s-themed party benefiting .

Held at EXDO Event Center, the Jan. 15 gathering gave guests an opportunity to enjoy disco roller skating, ping-pong, video games, themed food from Catering by Design and deejay music from a decade shaped in part by Ronald Reagan’s election as president; the killing of John Lennon and the Tiananmen Square protests.

Deirdre Wildman, chair of the Behind the Red governing council, worked with Matt Yarbrough, James Knowles, Nate Frantz, Josh Prouty, Sarah Blachly, Leslie Oliver, Siyeh Shinn, Cori Streetman, Sarah Hogan and Rodney Berry in planning the benefit.

Behind the Red helps the Red Cross by raising money, providing volunteers and assisting with communications and advocacy. The goal for 2014 was to raise $50,000 toward the purchase of a disaster-response vehicle.
