Re: “Frontier outsources work, gives 1,160 Denver airport workers notice,” Jan. 17 news story.
Frontier Airlines is going to cut 1,160 jobs to stay competitive; yet some of the jobs they’re eliminating pay about $10 an hour – which comes out to $20,800 a year for a full-time employee. The federal poverty level in 2014 for a four-person family was $22,811, and Frontier wants to pay outsourced labor less than that?
I used to believe in the concept of a free-market economy. The rich make more money and that money, in turn, trickles down to the lower classes. Unfortunately, the factor that isn’t included in that equation is good, old-fashioned greed.
Quite honestly, I don’t see how the outsource company will be able to find employees for less than Frontier is paying. The fact that they think they can, and probably will, is testament that our economy still hasn’t recovered and there are still a lot of desperate people out there.
