Around 50 protesters, led by attorney Gloria Allred, demonstrated against Bill Cosby before his shows at the Buell Theatre last Saturday. (AAron Ontiveroz, The Denver Post)

Re: “Protests, fans greet Bill Cosby at Denver shows,” Jan. 18 news story.

To those protesting Bill Cosby’s shows, I’d offer this: I don’t know the facts in any of the cases. And I’m equally confident that those protesting don’t know the facts about the alleged incidents either. But I am concerned that we have turned one of the bedrock elements of our justice system on its head. By now adopting “guilty until proven innocent,” we have abandoned a fundamental right of our free society. And, as we’ve seen in cases like the University of Virginia rape story, the Ferguson shooting and the Duke lacrosse mess, rushing to convict prior to actually finding the truth can lead to grave misjudgments. I’d challenge those who purport to speak for the injured to adopt a higher standard, to seek truth and allow our justice system to be the one to pass judgment. This will preserve a right we would all want to be in play if we were the accused.
