Plant a family tree

The Park People would like to add 1,000 to its already impressive total of 47,000 — that’s the number of trees that have been added to Denver’s urban forest as part of the Denver Digs Trees program, which offers free and reduced-cost trees to residents of local neighborhoods with low tree coverage. The organization is currently accepting applications through Feb. 15 for reduced cost trees ($10 and $35, depending on what neighborhood) or free (for those who qualify). Selections include “Autumn Brilliance” serviceberry, Glenleven littleleaf linden, “State Street” maple, “Hot Wings” Tatarian maple, Kentucky coffee tree, hardy rubber tree, “Imperial” honeylocust, American hophornbeam, Jefferson elm and swamp white oak. Delivery and planting assistance is also offered. Call or visit the website for more information. 303-722-6262,
