LAKEWOOD — Lakewood police are investigating whether a newborn baby was abandoned by her mother near a Walmart parking lot Tuesday morning or whether the child was legally dropped off under Colorado’s Safe Haven Law.
Firefighters told 7News that a middle-aged couple left a baby girl with them at West Metro Fire Station No. 1 around 8:15 a.m.
The couple said they were near the Walmart on West Colfax Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard when they were approached by a woman who said said she didn’t want the child anymore and gave it to them.
The couple told firefighters they wanted to stay anonymous. Firefighter and paramedic Cody Beinlich said it was obvious the baby had been born recently.
