Feb. 4-5: We wouldn’t send you all the way to Fort Collins for a long night of opera. But how about a short one? Opera Fort Collins is promising a speeded-up version of “The Elixir of Love,” reduced to a convenient 70 minutes. And the piece will be sung in English. Donizetti’s opera is heavy on comedy and contains some of his best-known music, making this tale of romance and trickery — and potential drugging with a certain love potion — a good choice for folks who know opera and those just getting their first introduction. The production is part of the company’s “Discover Donizetti” series, the centerpiece of its 35th season. Brian Clay Luedloff directs. Gerald W. Holbrook conducts. 7:30 p.m. Feb. 4 and 5. Fort Collins Lincoln Center, 417 W. Magnolia St. $28. 970-221-6730 or .
