State Rep. Libby Szabo has resigned her legislative seat effective Thursday, will be sworn in as a Jefferson County commissioner on Friday and a vacancy committee on Saturday will select someone to represent her Arvada House district.

And then on Monday House Republicans are scheduled to elect as the assistant minority letter. So far, Reps. Polly Lawrence of Douglas County and Clarice Navarro of Pueblo are in the running.

Szabo said leaving the legislature is bittersweet.

“There will be parts I miss but parts I won’t miss at all,” she said, including late night floor fights on everything from the budget to gun laws.

The legislative vacancy committee will meet at noon Saturday at the West Woods Community Police Station, 6644 Kendrick Drive in Arvada. House District 27 chair Denise Mund said 12 people have applied for the position. The 14-member legislative committee will decide on three or four finalists, and then vote Saturday.
