A man who pleaded guilty in connection with a pursuit and shooting that occurred in northwest Denver in 2013 was sentenced Thursday to 40 years in prison.

Jude Montoya, 23, pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder for an incident in which a Denver police officer was shot through the window of a patrol car, the Denver District Attorney’s Office said.

On Jan. 16, 2013, officials said, Montoya was in a vehicle trying to elude police. During the chase, numerous shots were fired at officers, with the officer injured. The vehicle crashed into a tree at West 39th Avenue and Osage Street, and eventually Montoya and others were taken into custody.

Chuck Montoya, 37, was found guilty at trial last year of the attempted murder of three Denver police officers, as well as multiple counts of assault. He was sentenced to 87 years in prison.

An additional suspect, John Montoya, 39, died at the scene.
