A man as they drove away from a Fort Collins party in September waived a preliminary Larimer County court hearing Wednesday.

Court records show Eddie Johnson, 20, fired a handgun inches away from Denver Mayor Michael Hancock’s then-19-year-old son, who was also in the vehicle when the shooting happened.

Johnson is next set to appear in court March 9 for a disposition hearing, records show.

Johnson has been charged with second-degree assault with a deadly weapon in the shooting of Jalen Robinson, 19, who was seriously wounded. Johnson is free on bail.

The shooting followed an alcohol-fueled night among friends that began at a popular Fort Collins bar, led to a college after-party and ended at the Medical Center of the Rockies.

Friends said Johnson and Robinson were best friends.

Hancock’s son, Jordan Hancock, was sitting just across from Robinson when he was shot.

Police said those in the SUV that night, including Hancock,

Jordan Hancock declined to speak to a Denver Post reporter when contacted about the case last year.
