You’ve seen the tender side of before — there’s “Hey Mama” and pretty much all of “808s and Heartbreak.” He brought that side to the “Ellen” show to premiere the Spike Jonze-directed video for “Only One.”
In home movie-type filming, Jonze was able to capture a sincere side of Kanye that fans rarely get to see (usually it’s all “Imma Let you finish” and rants about jogging pants). But in this video, Kanye plays around with his baby girl North in the pouring rain with matching wellies.
“Only One” is an unlikely collaboration between Kanye West and Sir Paul McCartney with the ex-Beatle on keyboards. Ellen grills West about more kids with socialite Kim Kardashian, matrimony and also discusses his new role with Adidas. West uses the interview to give an update on his new album, which he says he’s working on, but doesn’t yet have a title. “Only One” will be the album’s first single.
“We’re still trying to find the vibe,” Kanye told Ellen. “(There’s) this transition from what I felt when I did ‘Yeezus’ to what I feel now and we’re just creating, so we haven’t found it yet.”
Then, Degeneres freestyles for Mr. West, and it’s actually pretty good.
