A standoff that closed an Interstate 70 ramp for four hours Saturday afternoon ended peacefully, according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident began shortly before noon, when an armed man barricaded himself inside a white SUV on eastbound I-70 near Frisco. Police pulled the vehicle over after reports of an armed suicidal subject entering Summit County, according to the police report.
“At the time, the subject did not display any unusual behavior or aggressive driving,” the report says.
After roughly four hours of negotiations, the suspect surrendered. The Summit County Sheriff’s Office said it was a multi-agency effort involving officers from Frisco, Silverthorne, Lake County, Summit County, Colorado State Patrol and the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Upon his surrender, the subject was found to be armed with a .45 caliber handgun. According to the police report, he will undergo a mental health evaluation and will not be criminally charged.
