Falling snow is diminishing in the mountain regions, but traffic continues to build on Interstate 70 into Denver Sunday afternoon.

The Colorado Department of Transportation issued a traffic hold on eastbound U.S. 6 at Loveland Pass from 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. due to “safety concerns.”

Heavy eastbound I-70 traffic is expected, CDOT said.

Around 2 p.m., the department said there was heavy eastbound I-70 traffic from Silverthorne to Denver, tacking on at least 20 minutes to drivers’ commutes.

Flurries are still falling in the mountains, said National Weather Service spokesman Scott Entrekin, but the snow should be finished by 5 p.m.

Sunday night, Denver is expected to see highs in the teens with a few clouds, and Monday is predicted to be much warmer with temperatures in the 50s, Entrekin said.
