New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady speaks to the media on Jan. 22 regarding the Patriots’ use of underinflated footballs during their playoff win against the Indianapolis Colts. (Elise Amendola, The Associated Press)
There are a lot of critics out there wondering why all this fuss over deflated footballs. I think these people are missing the point. Athletics is the only true form of “reality” TV. There is no script and there are no decisions being made by non-participants such as writers, producers and poll takers. It is simply a matter of who won on a particular day and time. This is why so many people are wrapped up in sports. Now, if the perception changes and the public feels that the outcome is not being settled fairly on the field of play, we are all at a loss wondering who we can trust. We are watching because we know anything can happen, we have rooting interests, and we know that nothing is for sure. We believe what we see. It is called trust.
