DENVER (AP) — Marijuana users in Colorado and Washington already get warnings that the drug shouldn’t be used by pregnant and nursing women.
But Colorado is considering going further with a proposal to require pot shops to post signs warning that maternal marijuana use poses risks to unborn children.
Colorado is also working on a new advertising campaign aimed at pregnant and nursing women.
The moves come despite a state health report issued this week that cites “mixed” evidence for pot’s link to birth defects.
The sign requirement faces its first hearing Tuesday. Its Republican sponsor calls it a needed warning for women.
But some marijuana businesses are skeptical of the sign requirement, calling it an “attempt to discredit” marijuana.
